Smartphones? - I call them ‘mini mini PCs’
Everyday, a new cellphone is released and while the manufacturers battle for the top designs and best phone features, we the consumers enjoy the outcome. One of the many features we come to see is Wi-Fi and more importantly, a camera for catching those unforgettable moments.
For many of us these features mean the world, as we can leave laptops and cameras at home and burnish the advantages of having a smart phone (Check out what Wikipedia has to say about smart phones).
For some people, like myself, getting a smart phone like the Nokia N95 was like winning a prize, nowadays having a N95 is like having a pen, everybody has one. In fact, when you get a new phone today, tomorrow it can be considered old - in all sense. Interestingly, as new phones are released they get even faster and smarter. Personally, i think they have reached to the point where a smart phone isn’t just ’smart’ - it’s a ‘ mini mini PC’.
All these new smart phones comes with processors which runs over 300 MHz and have more than 64 MB Ram. I am ashamed to say my first PC ran at about 450 MHz and had about 64MB memory :(. In fact, these new cell phones have features that were not compatible with my computer, such as a camera. I remember trying to install an external camera on my PC and I got the blue screen of death, seriously.
What about physical appearance? What about it? Well … new cell phones are ‘hot’. Just take a look at the Apple iPhone, Samsung Tocco, LG Secret and even the Nokia N95 just to name a few. They all have something in common; small and supersleek designs. Welcome to the world of ‘mini mini PCs’.
